A instead of B

这是一个非常常用的结构：

A instead of B = 用 A 代替 B / 不是 B，而是 A / 选择 A 而不是 B

1. 最基本用法

I chose tea instead of coffee.
我选择了茶，而不是咖啡。

这里：

• A = tea
• B = coffee

所以：

A instead of B → A，而不是 B

2. 后面可以接动名词

He went home instead of going to the party.
他回家了，没有去参加聚会。

She stayed home instead of going out.
她待在家里，而没有出去。

注意：

instead of + 动词 时，通常用 V-ing。

3. 可以放在句首

Instead of taking the bus, I walked home.
我没有坐公交车，而是走回了家。

Instead of fighting, they negotiated.

4. instead 和 instead of 的区别

instead of + B

I had tea instead of coffee.
我喝了茶，而不是咖啡。

instead 单独使用：

I didn't have coffee. I had tea instead.
我没喝咖啡，而是喝了茶。

所以：

A instead of B
= A，而不是 B

5. 你在历史纪录片里可能经常听到

They evacuated by sea instead of by land.
他们通过海路撤离，而不是陆路。

Britain chose negotiation instead of war.
英国选择了谈判，而不是战争。

The troops retreated instead of fighting.

一个简单记忆

instead = 代替

instead of B = 不要 B，改成 A
